Sound Meditation
June

Wednesday

15
 at
7:30pm

The evening has three sections:

1. A brief talk about sound and its therapeutic effects, based on Alexandre’s extensive research in a variety of fields, including physics, neuroscience, psychology, and holistic practices. Learn how to maximize the benefits of sound by becoming an active participant in the experience, to listen judiciously to the overtones and not drift into mind-wandering.

2. Breathing exercises, guided visualization and toning. Alexandre will guide you to use your breathing, intentions and imagination to change "reality" from within, and instruct you in how use to sound as an ally in this process. Alexandre’s method is a synthesis of practices from ancient religions, shamanic societies, and Eastern holistic practices.

3. An extended experience of working with sound in a meditative state, using breathing, intentions, imagination, as well as equanimous listening to disengage from discursive thinking. Alexandre will play instruments that emit harmonic overtones, including gongs of various diameters, antique Himalayan singing bowls, and tuning forks with varying frequencies. There will be guided collective toning, vocalization, and vocal purging.

To preserve the work space for yourself and others we ask that you work in silence throughout the experience. Bring the intentions to go inward, to stay attentive, equanimous, and in the present.

Background

Alexandre Tannous is renowned as one of the world’s leading researchers and practitioners in the field of sound therapy. His research explores the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from three different perspectives — Western scientific, Eastern philosophical, and shamanic societal beliefs - to gain a deeper understanding of how sound has been used to affect human consciousness.

Underlying sound’s psychoacoustic power is a complex mathematical ratio, the harmonic overtone series, which is nature’s blueprint for sound production. Harmonic overtones are mathematically spaced tones contained within every constituting tone color, but they are only audible when played on specific instruments. When they resonate throughout the human body, these frequencies induce physiological changes that can be harnessed for therapy and for altering consciousness. To this end, Alexandre has developed a sonic experience – a sound meditation – that accelerates this process through a deep, meditative state. The goal is to enable participants to disengage their undesirable habitual patterns and to empower positive cognitive change.

Things to bring

Warm and comfortable clothing, eye mask (very important!), yoga mat, a refillable water bottle, blanket, a small pillow or a cushion.

Spirit Elixir

The Alchemist’s Kitchen is developing a full menu of state changing whole plant elixirs and tonics that combine the wisdom of indigenous traditions with the latest advances in neuroscience. A “spirit” elixir will be served at this event that supports the intention of opening the third eye. The Alchemist’s Kitchen tonic bar will open this April.

About

This is the first in a series of sound meditations Alexandre Tannous will be presenting at The Alchemist's Kitchen over the next months, each of which will start with a talk that will thoroughly address one specific topic about the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound. The aim of these talks is to transmit to individuals interested in learning how to properly use the consciousness-altering properties of sound to heighten self-awareness, to unlock hidden powers we have within us to promote profound inner changes and healing, to connect to the higher self, to fine-tune self-observation, and to attain self-realization.

The material he will address in these talks is based on observations he made during his fieldwork for 17 years in over 40 countries around the world, thorough research, scientific studies, and on data collected from his sound therapy work with thousands of individuals.

The talk portion will be filmed and made available for people to watch online through the Evolver Learning Lab and will become a database of valuable resources and the first of its kind.

Tonight's Topic: The benefits and the importance of working with sound.

All talks will be followed by a sound meditation which will consist of two sections:
